The fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world, right behind fossil fuels, transportation, and agriculture. The fashion industry alone is responsible for creating greenhouse gas emissions of 1.3 billion tons a year. Clothing releases half a million tons of microfibers into the ocean every year - this is equivalent to more than 50 billion plastic bottles.
In the U.S. alone, about 21 billion pounds of textile waste ends up in landfills every year, this equals 5% of all landfill waste. Harmful dyes and chemicals used in the processes to make clothing put garment workers, and our planet, in unhealthy situations that can lead to illness, birth defects, and death. 20% of the world's industrial water pollution is caused from textile dying and treatment processes.
Yup, 20 percent.
However, the future of fashion doesn't have to be this way! Over the years many brands, organizations, and individuals have taken notice to the negative impacts fast fashion has on the environment and are working tirelessly to make a positive difference within the fashion industry. At Revari, we partner with brands that put the environment + people first. We are proud to work with brands that honor our Mother Earth by creating their products in sustainable and innovative ways.
These sustainable initiatives include but are not limited to:
-Uses sustainable, biodegradable, and/or environmentally responsible fibers and raw materials that do minimal to no harm to the environment
-Implements sustainable manufacturing practices, such as reducing water waste, circular manufacturing, and zero-waste manufacturing
-Produces goods in limited quantities to avoid overproduction and textile waste
-Creates from mainly recycled, dead-stock, and/or re-purposed materials
-No chemicals or harmful dyes or paints used in the making of products
